Philippine Marines Arrested Wanted Individuals in Tawi-Tawi

Zambonga City – Marine troops from the Marine Battalion Landing Team-12 (MBLT-12) together with the members of the Philippine National Police conducted a Joint Law Enforcement Operation at the Municipality of Panglima Sugala, early dawn of February 02, 2021.

The successful operation led to the arrest of Suraidi Umbing, 70 years old, and Arasad Mukin, 56 years old, residents of Km. 2, Batu-Batu and Barangay Sumangday, Panglima Sugala, respectively.According to Lt. Col. Henry Espinosa, Commanding Officer of the MBLT-12, during the arrest of the two (2) accused in their respective households, the operatives were able to recover one (1) M1 Garand rifle with eight rounds of ammunition from Suraidi Umbing’s possession; and one (1) AK47 assault rifle with six magazines and 147 rounds of ammunition, and one Samsung Cellphone from Mukin,” As to the third accused, Sabri Umbing resisted arrest and opened fire, targeting primarily the authorities, during the arrest which eventually led to his death.

Sabri Umbing was brought to the nearest hospital but was declared death on arrival by the attending physician. The authorities recovered from the possession of Sabri Umbing a pistolized M14 rifle with one magazine and 17 rounds of ammunition.

Accused Ilol Umbing, however, was able to evade arrest as he was not around when the warrant was served at his residence. On the other hand, government troops were able to recover one AK47 assault rifle with two long magazines, four short magazines, and 57 rounds of ammunition; and one long M16 magazine with 88 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition.
