First Phase of Presidential Debate, Successfully Held in Mindanao

National election period has started. With the Commission on Election’s (COMELEC) theme of Pili Pinas 2016, Filipinos can now choose who they think deserves the Presidential seat which understands and take in to action the people’s appetency. With the most powerful seat to behold this coming May 2016 elections, to retain within its six year tenure, people are ascertaining the best presidential candidate who will fit as our Chief Executive.

Sunday, 22nd of February 2016, at 5 o’clock PM at Cagayan de Oro, Northern Mindanao, presidential candidates had their light to shine in the presidential debate conducted by Commission on Elections. The debate is tranche in three rounds, with ninety seconds to answer for every candidate, sixty seconds for rebuttal and for counter rebuttal is thirty seconds. Our aspirants answered several questions regarding their political issues, answering the problem in poverty and corruption, severe cases in Mindanao, and why should people choose and vote for them in the May elections.

Candidates were lined up alphabetically starting with Vice President Jejomar Binay, followed up by Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, Senator Grace Poe and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas, hosted by the adroit news anchors Mike Enriquez and Jessica Soho. As they introduce themselves, their credentials were flashed on the screen.

With #PILIPINASDEBATES2016, facebook and twitter users talked, commented and posted different point of views regarding the ongoing live telecast of debates. Netizens posted their questions, violent reactions, presidential bets, and sentiments regarding the debate. According to statistics presented by GMA, a big percentage of hashtag user was in the age bracket of 18 to 25 years old which means the youth of this generation is starving for information and change the cut-and-dry Philippine Government.

This 2016 National Election is a series full of drama, action, comedy and horror. Let us go hand-in-hand to discover the fate of our five presidential candidates. Let us ascertain who deserves more and who does not deserve any, who whole heartedly offer his or herself to the welfare of the government, to the enrichment not just for him or his Cabinet members but the rise of the Philippines as one.
